Lagos Island Plan

Legacy posted a written reply to the call for submissions to a public consultation on a new development plan for Lagos Island prepared on behalf of the State’s Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning. The plan explicitly includes environmental resilience and restoration, and cultural and heritage policy elements, which is a very welcome development. Legacy members provided a number of written recommendations which could help reinforce those elements and make them effective and workable when the plan is implemented. Relevant historic sites were pointed out and a case was made to actively promote these heritage sites as a core part of the social and visual identity of the Island and a key part of its attraction as a place to live, work, shop and visit. We thank the Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning for their open and consultative disposition and look forward to what emerges.
